Waste cooking oil biodiesel downstream processing. After completing basic biodiesel production steps, various downstream processing is required to produce biodiesel as per standard specifications. 5.4.1. Biodiesel separation. After the completion of the biodiesel production process, biodiesel contains an excess amount of glycerol, catalyst, and ...
The South Dakota Dakota Soybean Processor’s crushing plant in Volga, S.D., currently processes approximately 85,000 bushels of soybeans per day. The plant in Mitchell is slated to be larger, processing approximately 100,000 bushels a day according to SDSP CEO Tom Kersting. That equates to 35 million bushels of soybeans annually.

Soybean oil has been thermally decomposed in air using the standard ASTM method for distillation. The viscosity of the pyrolysed soybean oil distillate is 10.2 cSt at 37.8 °C, which is higher than the ASTM specified range for No. 2 diesel fuel but acceptable as still well below the viscosity of soybean oil [8]. 2.1.4. Transesterification
The procedure for the conversion of oil to esters described by Colombo, Ender and Barros (Colombo et al., 2016) has advantages over those commonly reported in the literature, since the transesterification process can be carried out with a homogeneous or a heterogeneous catalyst, yielding a high conversion of the oil to biodiesel.

The second non-catalytic approach utilizes methanol at very high temperature and pressure (350 to 400 degrees Celsius and greater than 80 atm or 1200 psi) to convert oil to biodiesel. This process requires a high alcohol to oil ratio (42:1 mole ratio).
Scientists then conducted experiments to convert the vegetable oil into biodiesel. The word “biodiesel” was probably first used in about 1984 (Van Gerpen et al., 2005, p. 4). The first biodiesel manufacturing plant specifically designed to produce fuel was started in 1985 at an agricultural college in Austria.
